Board Fellows

The prestigious and award-winning Junior League of Los Angeles (“JLLA”) Board Fellows program intensely trains current and future community leaders to become active, productive and effective members of a nonprofit organization’s Board of Directors by providing them with an overview of the roles and responsibilities of Directors and giving them a realistic understanding of the nonprofit community. A key component of this flagship program is the board fellowship in which Board Fellow participants are matched with Nonprofit Partner organizations to serve.

The Board Fellows program is offered to Junior League members (Actives and Sustainers). Participants attend a series of intensive training workshops and shadow the Board of Directors of a Nonprofit Partner organization. Through this dual-approach of training, participants receive a comprehensive foundation for future nonprofit board positions.

Past nonprofit participants have included Downtown Women’s Center, LACMA, and Shakespeare Festival/LA.

The program has been beneficial for both Board Fellows and our Nonprofit Partners.  Here's just a glimpse of what past participants had to say about the program:

"I had always wanted to serve on a nonprofit Board.  The Board Fellows program gave me the knowledge to understand what to look for in a board, what questions to ask, and how I could serve as a resource and an asset to a board.  I interned for the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles and have happily served on the board ever since!"  Anika Jackson, Past Board Fellow / Current Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles Board Member.

"Kate was an outstanding addition to our group, setting a standard and serving as an example of board service for others to follow... She's a real dynamo and exactly the type of motivated self-starter that non-profit organizations need."  Dwain Wilson, Executive Director, The Wildwoods Foundation.

"What a great opportunity to have access to someone like Ann who brought the exact knowledge we needed to the organization at this time..."  Karen Mack, Executive Director, LA Commons.
