Welcome to the Junior League of Los Angeles' website (the "Website") which is operated by or for the Junior League of Los Angeles, a California nonprofit corporation, with its principal office located in Los Angeles, California ("JLLA," "we," "our," or "us"). This privacy policy is intended to inform you about how your personally identifiable information ("Personal Information") and other information is collected on, and used by us in operating, the Website.

Notice Concerning Children

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act imposes certain requirements on websites directed toward children under 13 that collect information on those children, or on websites that know they are collecting personal Information from children under the age of 13.  We are a general audience site, and we do not collect information or direct any of our content specifically at children under 13 years of age.  We will collect children's personal information only if is provided by a registered adult.  We understand and are committed to respecting the sensitive nature of children's privacy online. If we learn or have reason to suspect that a Site user is under age 13, we will promptly delete any personal information in that user's account.

How does the Website work?

The Website offers visitors and JLLA members ("you" or "your") the opportunity to browse the Website and use certain features on the Website. By using the Website, you consent to the collection and use of your Personal Information by JLLA, as described herein and as updated from time to time. JLLA reserves the right to change how we handle the information we collect through the Website at any time. We will update this privacy policy to reflect any changes in our privacy collection and handling practices, and we will indicate that changes to this privacy policy have been made by listing a new date under "Last Modified" at the top of this privacy policy. Such changes will take effect immediately once posted to the Website. You should return to this page from time to time to review any updates.

What type of Personal Information does JLLA collect from you and how do we use it?

a. In general JLLA does not require you to provide us with any Personal Information in order to view the Website. However, in order to use the Website to donate, purchase goods and services, pay dues (for JLLA members) or sign-up for updates about JLLA, you will need to provide certain Personal Information to us. If you use the Website to make a donation to us, purchase goods or services or pay dues, the Personal Information you provide will include without limitation your name, address, email address and credit card and billing information, which we will use to process your transaction and if appropriate issue a tax receipt to you. If you request to receive updates from us about JLLA and the work that we do, the Personal Information you will need to provide us will include your name and email address, which we will use to provide you with such information. In order to enable you to make donations, purchases, payment of dues or receive updates, we will share your Personal Information with third parties authorized to act on our behalf, including without limitation credit card processing, banking and other service providers. Our third party vendors use industry standard security measures to keep your Personal Information secure and private. We will not sell, hire or release your Personal Information to any other third parties, unless we believe the release of such information is necessary (i) to protect or enforce our rights, (ii) to comply with a court order or subpoena, or (iii) as part of a reorganization, consolidation, merger, or transfer of substantially all of the assets of JLLA.

b. Secure Area

If you are a member of the JLLA, you have provided us with Personal Information (name, address, telephone numbers and email addresses) that is posted on a Secure Area of the Website containing information about our members.  Only JLLA members with a JLLA issued username and password may access this Secure Area that contains the Members Information pertaining to: (i) Contact Information (name, address, phone numbers, e-mail addresses) of JLLA members and the JLLA Membership Directory; (ii) Payment History; (iii) Membership Status and Placement History; and (iv) JLLA Meeting Information. 

JLLA members are prohibited from using the information in the Secure Area, including the Members Directory Information, for their own personal gain in a manner outside of the JLLA mission. 

How is Personal Information protected?

We care about the safety and security of your transactions and your Personal Information. We select our service providers on the basis that they use industry-standard security protocols for protecting the confidentiality of the Personal Information that they handle for us, including without limitation using SSL encryption for credit card transactions. We do not authorize our service providers to use your Personal Information for purposes other than to execute transactions requested by you and to provide related services to us. While the JLLA takes the actions described above to protect the Personal Information you provide to us, please keep in mind that complete security does not exist on the Internet, and we cannot guarantee that such information will not be lost, disclosed or accessed by accidental circumstances or by the unauthorized acts of others

What other information does JLLA collect?

We also may collect anonymous and aggregate information from you about your preferences in navigating the Website by using cookies, action tags and other methods. Cookies are small text files that identify your computer. We may use cookies to, among other things, monitor Website usage, customize Website features, identify your computer's operating system and browser, and complete transactions. An action tag is a small, graphic image on a webpage that is designed to allow a website owner or a third party to monitor who is visiting a website by collecting the IP address of the computer to which the tag is sent, the URL of the webpage that the tag comes from and the time that such webpage was viewed. Tags may be associated with cookie information. We may also use such non-Personal Information for promotional purposes. If you do not want us to track such non-Personal Information about you, you can set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies and refuse cookies when your browser alerts you to their presence. You can also adjust the settings in your browser to refuse all cookies. Please keep in mind that if you make such adjustments, you may not be able to make a donation, purchase or dues payment through the Website.

The Site may include interactive forums such as message boards and chat rooms. Please remember that any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information and you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal information.

Does JLLA provide links to other websites?

JLLA may provide links to other websites or resources of possible interest to you. Because we do not control unaffiliated websites to which we provide links, the collection and use of your Personal Information and other information by such websites shall be subject to the policies and procedures of such websites and not this privacy policy. This privacy policy does not apply to, and we are not responsible for, the collection of personally identifiable information in web pages not under the www.jlla.org domain
