ALLIANCE FOR CHILDREN’S RIGHTS

The Junior League of Los Angeles is proud to announce it has expanded its community partnership with the Alliance for Children’s Rights with a larger project aimed at transition-age foster youth. The expanded project, “Fostering Independence,” will take place on the first Wednesday of each month, September 2015-April 2016. The project covers topics such as inner and outer beauty, knowing your worth, conflict resolution, social media and personal information protection, educational pursuits, and employment processes to name a few. In aid of this expansion, JLLA has devoted more women power, already over 50 volunteer hours have been logged towards this endeavor.

Each session consists of dinner for at least twenty-five young women (ages 16-24), engaging activities, a large group topic introduction, presenters, and relevant utilitarian items for the participants to take with them.  The League is looking for donations that would help these foster youth – either collateral items, such as Tap cards (Metro passes) and flash drives, or dinner and supplies for the sessions.  If you would like to make a donation or have a suggestion for a contact, please email info@jlla.org.

In addition to the increased women power and volunteer hours, JLLA is partnering with the Alliance for Children’s Rights on its advocacy efforts, conducting a projects drive, collaborating on trainings, as well as Done In A Day (DIAD) events. In recent years, as this partnership was being explored, opportunities for our members to volunteer at the Alliance were incredibly impactful to the community as well as popular with our members. The outlook is positive this year will build on previous successes, helping transition-age foster youth!
