Junior League of Los Angeles was a proud co-sponsor of SB1065, which expands the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) homeless assistance benefits by broadening eligibility of an entitlement program and increasing the period of assistance to avoid gaps in housing. Sponsored by Senator Robert M. Hertzberg (D-18), the bill increases options for California’s poorest families with children by making significant adjustments to the critical safety net that is the Homeless Assistance program. The bill also improves the effectiveness of the CalWORKs program’s homelessness interventions. ⠀

Members of the JLLA SPAC team worked diligently to submit support letters and coordinate our efforts to see the bill signed into law. The bill was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom on September 25, 2020.
